EnviroServ cultivates ability through a learnership programme for differently abled youth

2025 / 11 / 10 by EnviroServ

At EnviroServ, a SUEZ company, sustainability is not simply a commitment — it’s a measurable outcome. Our recent collaboration with a major client in the Food and Beverage sector in the Western Cape demonstrates how partnership, expertise, and innovation can deliver outstanding results.

Our learnership in Business Administration Level 2 remains a beacon of inclusion and transformation. This year, fifteen differently abled young people from across KwaZulu-Natal have embarked on a one-year journey of growth and learning with us. Running from March 2025 to February 2026, the programme blends three months of theoretical training with nine months of practical experience, providing participants with a robust foundation for future employment.

The group – comprising four males and eleven females – has been placed across a variety of host organisations, including community schools, local clinics, and ward councillors’ offices. Each learner receives a monthly stipend while gaining valuable experience that combines academic learning with practical, workplace-based skills.

One of our participants, 28-year-old Nontobeko Sithole, who matriculated in 2022 and is currently placed with Councillor Sanele Ndlanzi, reflects on her experience:

“We learn a lot. It’s real-life experience, including drafting minutes and other administrative work. I feel more confident and prepared for future opportunities.”

Another learner, Sphamandla Qwabe, aged 24 and based at Umtetweni Clinic in Port Shepstone, adds:

“It’s been very great. I’ve been part of youth empowerment programmes before, but this one stands out because of the constant feedback and communication from EnviroServ. Sibongiseni Mbilana has been a great liaison — proactive and very supportive. I work closely with the clinic clerk, and as someone living with a disability, I really appreciate how my condition has been accommodated.”

At EnviroServ, we believe that true sustainability lies in creating opportunities for all. Our commitment to inclusive education and empowerment continues to make a tangible difference in the lives of young South Africans — helping to build a future where everyone’s potential can be realised, regardless of physical limitations.

We extend our best wishes to the 2025 cohort as they continue their journey, and we remain steadfast in our mission to foster capability, confidence, and contribution in every learner we support.
