Reduce waste, transport and disposal costs

with dewatering system

Sludge dewatering

INTRODUCTION

Changes in legislation saw a need for a system to remove moisture content from waste slurries to meet requirements for disposal to landfill.

THE CHALLENGE

The challenge was to find an effective, continuous dewatering system which could be used for a broad array of slurries, to reduce liquids to landfill.

THE SOLUTION

The continuous dewatering system produces dry filter cakes with moisture contents as low as 25%.

How the technology works is that sludge is fed at low pressure into the belt filter press and compressed as it is moved in a circular motion between stainless steel rollers. Free water passes through the belt filter and the sludge dewaters as it travels along the belt. The force of the belt filter on the sludge is sufficient to dewater the sludge resulting in an exceptionally dry filter cake (product dependent), which meets landfill site disposal regulations. At the end of the process, flocculated sludge is removed from the belt filter and exits the process via conveyer belt.

The plants are designed in a modular manner to meet a variety of customer requirements and can expand as customers grow. Depending on nature of slurry, throughput volume varies and is controlled through variable speed drives within the system.

The plant, manufactured from stainless steel, is designed to survive in the harsh African environment with minimal maintenance.

Outcomes

The dewatering system is yet another way in which EnviroServ is assisting in accelerating the move towards a circular economy.

The technology has low water and energy consumption and is reliable due to its simplicity and refined operating procedures, resulting in reduced transport and disposal costs. It requires minimal supervision and one operator is able to operate multiple units if required. The plants are designed in a modular manner to meet a variety of customer requirements or an ability to expand as customers grow. Training on all equipment sold, or alternatively, turnkey solutions can be provided.
