Celebrating 50 Years of UNESCO’s Intergovernmental Hydrological Programme

On 8 September 2025, EnviroServ was honoured to take part in the 50th anniversary celebrations of UNESCO’s Intergovernmental Hydrological Programme (IHP), hosted by the South African National Committee (SANC) for UNESCO IHP and the Department of Water and Sanitation.

The event brought together leading organisations and individuals driving water conservation and education across South Africa — and we were proud to stand alongside them.

Community engagement at the heart of change:

All of EnviroServ’s Community Liaison Officers participated in the national Photo Story Competition on Citizen Science for Water, which showcased how communities are championing sustainable water use and climate action.

We are especially proud that entries from our Eastern Cape communities were recognised among the top ten nationally. EnviroServ was the only organisation to receive two awards, in the Water and Education categories — a distinction that highlights both our strategic investment in community engagement and our growing role in water stewardship.

This recognition reinforces our view that empowered communities are powerful partners in protecting natural resources and addressing climate change.

Through our Corporate Social Investment initiatives, we will continue to champion environmental education, support grassroots action, and build a future where waste, water, and climate challenges are addressed in an integrated, sustainable way.
