The future of waste management is under the microscope at the International Solid Waste Association (ISWA) World Congress Conference in Cape Town, South Africa from 15 to 18 September 2024.

EnviroServ’s Technical Director, Esme Gombault and Operations Director Nico Vermeulen, will present The South African perspective with EnviroServ's practices and development plans for landfills. We asked them some questions about the Conference.

What makes ISWA such a special conference?

•  This will be the first time that ISWA and a conference of this nature will be hosted in South Africa and what an amazing opportunity for South African waste experts to attend this on home soil.

What will you be sharing with delegates in your presentation?We will be sharing one aspect of our journey to converting our facilities in terms of Green Landfills and how we are reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

• What are you most looking forward to about ISWA?

Networking and learning from experts from around the world. We get to meet each other face to face and have an opportunity to interact where almost all our interactions these days are virtual.

I will showcase how investments in research and development, engineering practices and technology have equipped us to be a trusted integrated waste management solutions provider, and how our circular solutions are accountable to the direction taken by forward-thinking nations.

What are you most looking forward to about ISWA?

• The entire conference promises to be value-adding for everyone within the waste management industry. I am looking forward to the knowledge sharing, technical expertise, scheduled technical tours and the opportunities they provide to gain a fresh perspective.
