The Institute of Waste Management of Southern Africa’s central branch committee held site visits to Mpact’s Springs Mill and EnviroServ’s Holfontein Waste Management Facility on Wednesday, 14 June 2023. This was in an effort to have players within the waste industry share knowledge and expertise.

Britz Reinders was ready and wiling to engage with stak

The Holfontein Waste Management facility visit was attended by just over 15 waste management enthusiasts. The facility’s Operations Manager, Britz Reinders, Public Affairs Manager and a member of the central branch committee, Makgabo van Niekerk as well as EnviroServ’s Ops General Manager Rhyno Gouws, hosted the delegation.

Britz started off with a presentation detailing the history of the site to the current status. He detailed how the country’s waste management legislation had impacted infrastructure, design choices and operations.

There were frank discussions on an array of subjects including cell construction, monitoring, compliance and legislation. Evident on the day was everyone’s willingness to operate in a sustainable manner. There was acknowledgement of the need for various industry players to share insights and explore ways to collectively deal with challenges within the waste management industry.
