VULUMZI Senior Secondary School honoured their teachers and learners for their outstanding achievements in Grade 12 during the 2021 academic year during a glittering function at Raymond Mhlaba Sports Centre in Motherwell NU 4 B recently.

The guest speaker, Sindile Zamisa, who is the school’s circuit manager, appealed to the learners to study their books and respect their educators.

Zamisa also praised Vulumzi Senior Secondary School educators and learners for the outstanding Grade 12 results yielded in the November 2021 examinations.

Vulumzi Senior Secondary School headmaster, Mzimkhulu Fina, who has inspired a significant change to the school’s matriculation results since he was appointed, stated that teamwork and the sacrifice of his staff attributed to the outstanding results of the 2021 Grade 12 class.

Fina said, “Every teacher fully understands that their core duty is to make sure that curriculum delivery takes place and the learners’ core responsibility is to study their books. Our school management team (SMT) played a phenomenal role.”

Learners and educators received certificates and trophies for their outstanding performances in different categories. Vulumzi Secondary’s top learner, Bongi Gqirhana, received level seven in life orientation, agricultural sciences and life sciences and level six in other subjects.

Linamandla Ngamase, Nkazimlo Kolobile and Lisakhanya Ndwayana were also top achievers.

Deputy principal, Nono Quza, thanked the staff for their sacrifice, determination and dedication shown over the previous years. She also lauded their headmaster whose leadership and management skills helped Vulumzi Secondary to be counted among the top schools.

Quza explained, “Our 2021 Grade 12 class showed character and their parents were very supportive. I would also like to express our heartfelt gratitude to our partners PPC, Environ SERV, Ikamvelihle SAPS, Dr Ngubo Biyana, churches and community-based organisations for the role they always play towards our school.”

Teacher awards:

  • Educators who had more than 90% pass rate in the subjects they teach: Nokuzola Jantjies (91% in business studies), Mzikayise Koboka (94% in history), Siphumzo Msweli (91% in physical science) and Nono Quza (92% in life sciences).
  • Educators who had 100% pass rate: Daniswa Phillip (accounting), Beauty Tose (agricultural science), Sibongile Somniso (English second language), Noluthando Limba (IsiXhosa home language) and Nosipho Bola (100% in life orientation).

Consistent Performance awards:

  • Mzikayise Koboka (history), Nono Quza (life sciences), Sibongile Somniso (English first language), Nosipho Bola (life orientation), Noluthando Limba (IsiXhosa home language), Daniswa Phillip (accounting) and Beauty Tose (agricultural science).

Shields:

  • Shields were awarded to SMT members Mzikayise Koboka, Nomathamsanqa Njibane, Nono Quza and Zakumani Avela.
