Enviroserv Recognised At 2025 Responsible Care Awards For Sustainability Leadership

EnviroServ, a SUEZ company is proud to announce that it has been honoured at the 2025 Responsible Care Awards, hosted by the Chemical and Allied Industries’ Association (CAIA). The company received the runner up award for the Responsible Care Initiative of the Year Award – Company Category A for its Carbon Emissions Reduction and Clean Energy Initiative.

Since its launch in South Africa in 1994, Responsible Care® has been a driving force in improving safety, health, environmental (SHE), and security standards across the chemical and related industries. Originally established in Canada in 1985, this global initiative has expanded to nearly 70 economies, promoting sustainability and responsible practices throughout the chemicals value chain.

Award-Winning Project: Carbon Emissions Reduction and Clean Energy Initiative

The award-winning project is based at EnviroServ’s Chloorkop Waste Management Facility, where greenhouse gases (GHG) are extracted and destroyed. More recently, the project has been expanded to supply biogas to a neighbouring factory, generating 1 MWh of electricity.

To date, the initiative has reduced 1.46 million tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent (CO₂e), which represents a 33% reduction in Chloorkop’s GHG emissions and a 12% reduction in EnviroServ’s overall emissions.

This achievement demonstrates EnviroServ’s commitment to its Sustainable Development Climate Commitment, which aims to reduce GHG emissions by 26% by 2030. It also contributes to international climate mitigation efforts while generating economic value for the company.

Recognition for Sustainability and Safety

In addition to the award, EnviroServ received two certificates of recognition: one for greening its waste management facilities and another for its SHEQ initiatives, including the successful implementation of RAZ and Life Saving Rules.
