Owners of contaminated land must comply with Part 8 of the National Environmental Management: Waste Act, (no. 59 of 2008) pertaining to contaminated land. 
EnviroServ’s SANAS 17025 accredited laboratory can assist with waste assessments and classification on contaminated land to advise on and handle disposal to landfill. This can be used in the support document for remediation plans to be submitted to the Department of Environmental Affairs (DEA). Should compliant disposal to landfill be the DEA’s approved option, EnviroServ can initiate a remediation project including removal of contaminated land, and transport to a compliant landfill site where any required treatment is applied prior to disposal.

We will also evaluate treatment of waste on site, or if viable economic opportunities exist to use one of the many alternatives to landfill. Bio remediation of the land is also an option.


WASTE STOCKPILE MANAGEMENT

Based on the data obtained from a preliminary classification assessment of waste stockpiles, EnviroServ’s team of dedicated specialists can assist with the implementation of various solutions such as: 

  • Evaluation of the flagged waste stockpiles for potential recovery and/or reuse of valuable raw materials
  • Assess whether treatment and disposal of the waste stockpile is a viable option based on legal as well as cost constraints
