SAFE DISPOSAL CERTIFICATE (SDC)

What is a Safe Disposal Certificate?

A waste disposal certificate is a certificate confirming that Waste Managers disposing of waste to landfill have done so

in accordance with the Norms and Standards for Disposal of Waste to Landfill set in terms of section 7(1) of the National

Environmental Management Waste Act.

Who issues a Safe Disposal Certificate?

A waste manager treating and disposing the waste shall issue the waste generator with a Safe Disposal Certificate after

the disposal of such waste.

Are Safe Disposal Certificates issued for both hazardous and non-hazardous waste?

Safe disposal certificates are issued for waste classified as hazardous waste. Non-hazardous waste are not issued with

Safe Disposal Certificates.
