INTRODUCTION

EnviroServ Waste Management has assisted industrial bakeries around the country with dough waste removal. The dough waste is treated and combined with other organic waste and in turn gets delivered to farmers as livestock feed.

THE CHALLENGE

Globally, food waste is a problem and for the food industry, especially for bakeries, dough wastage can be the difference between profit and loss. Removal and disposal of waste is often at extreme costs for bakeries, especially the smaller ones.

THE SOLUTION

EnviroServ has staff members at each bakery, who are responsible for managing the waste removal process and separating the dough waste. Staff are also responsible for housekeeping and making bookings for collections when bins are full. Once the dough waste is collected, it is transported to a facility where it is treated and combined with other organic waste ingredients that have nutritional value.

THE OUTCOME

The new combination of bakery waste and organic waste with nutritional value is then delivered to farmers in surrounding areas. The farmers then feed their livestock with it.

CONCLUSION

By offering this service, EnviroServ has helped bakeries to save on transport and disposal costs and instead receive a rebate. The service also assists local farmers with nutritional feed for their livestock. With this provision, EnviroServ has contributed to lessening environmental issues and food wastage.
