EnviroZorb is a proudly South African absorbent product, locally manufactured from 100% organic fibres which are made utilising sustainable renewable resources. It is made up from a propriety blend of C. NF peat (a cellulose organic fibre) and two species of Pine Bark namely Pinus elliottii and Pinus patula. The product is an economical, fast acting absorbent that is free flowing, non-abrasive, non-toxic and non-carcinogenic. It is also a non-leaching environmentally friendly biodegradable oil absorbent fibre and is used extensively as both an emergency response and every day spill management tool. The EnviroZorb product range is a natural organic oil absorbent fibre that is lightweight and oleophilic (it has a strong affinity for oil rather than water). These characteristics allow for rapid absorption and vapour suppression of petroleum hydrocarbons, both on water and land. In its natural state, the absorbent is safe and easy to handle. It requires your least essential protective clothing and no specialised trained technicians or high tech equipment for handling or disposing of spent absorbent. The absorbent will solidify and encapsulate spill on contact, eliminating spreading without leaching. It is a completely homogenous organic material, composed of millions of capillary micro-sponges that absorb and hold up to six times their own weight in liquids. The physical structure of the matrix of capillaries allows the product to absorb hydrocarbons, allowing the pollutant to remain within the product without leaching. The product also traps flammable fumes, assisting with fire control at spills. The absorbency of this product is a result of its highly porous ultrastructure and surface properties. These enhance its affinity for hydrophobic substances.
