Q:Are there any changes to waste legislation that will affect our company?

A: The government has introduced legislation based on first world standards to waste management.  These new laws and the enforcement thereof have become strictly enforced to ensure that there is no harm to persons or the environment.  EnviroServ has welcomed and embraced these changes as it allows us to offer first world waste management solutions to our customers and the market.

Q:What impact is the new legislation going to have?
A:Reduction at source and the cradle to grave concept will become priorities for the waste generator.  Consequently, there is more accountability and responsibility on the part of the producer, transporter and manager of waste.  Manifest systems will track waste from creation to final disposal to ensure that waste is dealt with appropriately.  Companies will be compelled to be more innovative with regard to waste solutions and to rely less on traditional solutions.

Q:Does EnviroServ provide safe disposal certificates once waste has been disposed of?
A: All clients receive their safe disposal certificates once their waste is disposed of as proof to the relevant authorities that the waste was managed in an approved and permitted manner.

Q:Does EnviroServ link up with SARS/Customs in order to oversee our safe disposals?
A: Where required this is done in conjunction with the relevant authorities, e.g. SARS oversees the disposal of tobacco products.

Q:Does EnviroServ allow the clients to oversee the safe disposal process?
A:Yes.  A safe disposal service entails the following:

  • The load with the product is accompanied by the client or escorted to the site.
  • Acceptance and recording of the load takes place at our weighbridge.
  • The load is accompanied by security officials to a purpose made trench on the site
  • In the presence of the client, security officials, site management and an EnviroServ’s sales representative the product is off loaded, crushed and trenched.
  • The destroyed product is treated with chemicals if required and covered.
  • The trench is further covered with other incoming wastes and finally closed off with daily cover material (typically soil).
  • Finally, the client is issued with a Safe Disposal Certificate to prove that the product has been destroyed. This certificate is an essential part of a waste management documentation system as it facilitates the ability to provide an auditable cradle-to-grave paper trail for the authorities.
Q:What alternatives are there to the traditional waste disposal methods?
A: Waste to energy generation, waste beneficiation, mineral recovery , waste reduction at source or point of generation, reuse and recycling.  Many of these can be offered as on-site waste management options. We also offer specialised industrial cleaning services, emergency spill response services and absorbent products to deal with chemical and oil spills.
